The United Way of Metropolitan Nashville invites applications for a Director of Major Gifts position in Nashville TN. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Fundraising & Marketing.
 
Responsibilities for the position center on the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift donors at the $10,000 and above level. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree and experience in major gifts fund-raising and/or volunteer work with philanthropic organizations. A proven track record of soliciting major gifts, experience in capital campaigns, and a working knowledge of planned giving would be desirable. Experience with electronic advancement systems and tools would also be advantageous. Certification as a Fund Raising Executive or other professional credentials from CASE and previous experience at a similar academic institution are preferred.
 
The successful candidate must have an understanding of the value of our mission, history, and culture of the United Way. He or she must have outstanding listening, communication, and personal relationship skills, an ability to relate to individuals on many levels.  He or She will have a high level of comfort in talking with individuals about financial matters, and a willingness to travel locally and work some weekends and special events. Candidates must also possess an ability to write and speak articulately, convincingly, and inspiringly. The ability to work in a close and collaborative way with members of the development team, with the board, volunteers of many levels and staff are imperative. Organizational skills, prompt and accurate reporting abilities, an understanding of the confidential nature of development work, and, ultimately, the ability to solicit and close on major gifts are essential for success.
